Could we, with ink, the oceans fill;

and were the sky of parchment made;

were ev'ry reed on earth a quill,

and ev'ry man a scribe by trade,

to write the love of God above

would drain the oceans dry;

the scroll could not contain the whole

though stretched from sky to sky.

The kind of love that Jesus shows

will never end and always be

as strong as God and free to those

whose hearts are willing whose flesh is weak,

this love will be their constant light,

their morning start their guide,

their courage in the darkest night,

forever by their side.

And were the God of whom we sing

a vaguely glorious deity

he'd still deserve the praise we bring

for all his providential deeds,

but God is not just ev'rything;

his love is thus unique:

that while I still was trapped in sin

he lived and died for me.
